Not only do we produce all our electronics and software in-house, but we also manufacture the base plates and keys for our organ keyboards ourselves - a welcome change from working at a desk!
Each keyboard is unique and begins with the selection of suitable logs from the timber merchant. Whenever possible, we avoid endangered precious woods and use high-quality alternatives. Theoretically, you can also send us wood from your pear tree (or apple, plum, cherry, maple...) and we will dry it for you!
After delivery, we first plane the raw wooden planks on a jointer. We differentiate between key blanks (8 lower keys or 15 upper keys each) made of spruce and sawn veneers for the upper and lower keys.
In the second step, we plane both to the desired thickness using the thickness planer.
Further processing takes place on computer-controlled milling machines, which is why planing must be very precise.
The holes for guide pins, magnets and the necessary cut-outs for the key blanks are milled fully automatically on these CNC machines.
We then glue the veneer of your choice onto the blanks. The board for the upper blocks is then glued onto the veneer of the upper key blocks. After drying, we then saw the glued key blocks into individual keys.
Did you know that each individual lower key has its own dimensions? C and F, for example, may look identical at first glance, but the width of the cut-out for the upper key actually varies by a few tenths of a millimeter!
Now begins the part that no CNC machine can (yet) do for us: Sanding the rough-sawn keys. As time-consuming as this work is, the result is simply worth it!
We offer different surface finishes - the finer the polish and the glossier the key surface, the more slippery it will be. A silky matt finish with a not too fine grind, on the other hand, offers a pleasantly velvety yet non-slip feel.
No matter which finish you choose - after a few years of intensive use, your fingers will most likely have polished the key coverings bare. Then the time has come to restore your keyboards to their original condition in our workshop! Please feel free to contact us.
By the way: All parts of our keyboards are interchangeable and available as spare parts!
